I have to set out the garbage bin every sunday evening, and want to be notified if I have not done this by 23:00 (as in I have forgotten it). I earlier wrote about how I do this in another blog post. Version 17 of Frigate has introduced a solution that makes that kind of detections easier.
By using AI, we can get Frigate to check if there is a garbage bin in the image:
This gives us a state sensor in Home Assistant, that can be used to send a notification if the garbage bin is not detected where it’ supposed to be on sunday evening. I am using 3 different state sensors to decide if the garbage bin is “home” or “away”.
